My lovely mum died at 10.30 on Friday morning, 6 July 2018.
Mary had an amazing life, and, if such a thing is possible, a beautiful
death. Patricia, my family and I have been surrounded and supported by many angels:
we do not grieve.
I had a phone call at 7.15 in the morning, and Patricia and I went to
Fountains Lodge, where she had lived for the last few years. She was breathing badly, and a bit distressed. The ambulance had been called, and the lovely paramedics
were making her comfortable, and giving her oxygen. Patricia and I took
turns to hold her hand, and speak to her.
The wonderful local GP arrived, and prescribed something to help calm
her, but it was never administered. I went out of the room, to contact
family and keep them in the picture. When I came back in, Patricia was
reciting the General Thanksgiving from the Book of Common Prayer, and my
mum seemed immediately to be calm.
Soon after that, her demeanour changed, and her gaze became fixed. This
lasted a short while, and then the spirit left her. She was infinitely
at peace, and I had a strong impression of the sunlit fields she had
gone to.
I attach my most recent picture of her, taken on 7 June. You can see that even a month ago, though frail, she could still be pretty sparky!
Don't feel any duty to write to condole: we are in a good place, and so is she.
